MOTION

Te Papa Tongarewa Museum of New Zealand is a world-class, bicultural institution at the heart of Wellington's waterfront. In Commercial Marketing, my role supported the many teams at work to keep the museum, as well as their partner organisation, Tākina Wellington Convention and Exhibition Centre, operational. These teams included Te Papa Foundation, Te Papa Store, Te Papa Tours, Tākina Events and Te Papa Venues, Te Papa Cafés, Visitor Services, Commercial Events, Touring Exhibitions, and Partnerships. This page is a showcase of some of my projects during my tenure there.

Toa Tamariki Mural

Mural illustration showing Toa Tamariki storefront, with products on shelves and a small child coming out of the bottom of a green slide. Many florals are along the side and there is a lot of handwritten info about where to find the store.

Te Papa Store

Location pin External wall of museum

Illustration

To promote Toa Tamariki (kid's store), I designed this mural that sits near both the main entrance of the museum, and onsite daycare. The design shows the updated storefront branding and is meant to appeal in particular to passing children by showcasing there is a slide, as well as all the beautiful items available for purchase. It was a huge honour to create an artwork that has become a part of the museum, with my illustrations and own handwriting built into the English and te reo Māori info text.

Toa Tamariki Lightbox

Te Papa Store

Location pin Museum Level 2

Illustration | Graphic Design

For consistency in the Te Papa Store visuals, I created this illustration in the same style as the external mural, to go inside Toa Tamariki for a fun sampling of some of the products available (both real and imagined ones). This visual also aligned with the new wall graphics that I helped set up from previous artwork created for the store. Helping to make the store spaces shine was a privilege. Scroll further down this page for another wall graphic I made for the main Te Papa Store on Level 1 of the museum!

Te Papa Tours

Location pin Wellington iSite Visitor's Centre, external/internal museum screens

Motion Design | Graphic Design

Getting a guided tour of any museum is a special treat that elevates the experience, so the goal here was to promote that there are many different types of tours that can be booked. This informational video was originally created to be featured at the Wellington iSite Visitor's Centre on Level 1 of Tākina for international tourists, but was quickly also adapted to play on external and internal screens at Te Papa, to encourage all visitors to book one of the many tours available.

Annual Appeal Campaign

Te Papa Foundation

Location pin National mailer, internal print and screens

Graphic Design

The museum is partially government funded, but each year Te Papa has to raise $30-40 million dollars to remain operational. I was approached by the Foundation to create campaign materials about the Annual Appeal, as well as a national mailer form that was sent out to potential donors.

Event Menus

Tākina Events / Te Papa Venues, Te Papa Cafés

Location pin Tākina Wellington Convention Centre and Te Papa, during venue events

Graphic Design

Being at the physical centre of New Zealand's capital city means that both Te Papa Venues and Tākina Events host various high profile events each year, with award winning chefs on hand for a quality visitor experience. With multiple annual menus and two buildings with distinct branding, I was tasked with creating templates that can quickly identify which menu, and which building an event is happening in. In addition to what's shown here, I created all the general venue and special event menus, as well as dietary versions and seat place cards, for each building.

Experiencing all parts of the museum

My job at Te Papa connected me to a multitude of the organisation departments. Here are some of my other projects, which were featured around the museum and elsewhere in the city, such as Wellington International Airport.
